STORY

“But the angel said to them, ‘Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord.’”

—Luke 2:10-11 (NIV)

When I sat down to write "I Find My Joy,” I was actually trying to write something completely different. Honestly, I was really just trying to write anything to take to our songwriting group that night! But everything I wrote seemed shallow, and I pretty much gave up. The fact is that I was at a place in my life where I was struggling to finish the sentence, "I find my joy in....” In that moment of frustration, I was playing guitar and started proclaiming that my joy was found in the Lord.

I took an outline to Seth that night, and we wrote the rest over the next few days. This song came at a time when I was searching in all the wrong places for fulfillment. It became a declaration of faith that true, lasting joy is found only in the Lord.

Every time I sing these words I am reminded not only of what He has done for me, but also what He is doing. He is faithful to finish His work in my life. I know that, “even when I fall in the battle, there is victory” because Jesus is an incredible source of joy!

LYRICS

I find my joy in the Lord
He is my hope
He is my shelter in the storm
I will sing of all He’s done
He slayed my sin and healed my heart
He has my love

Even when I walk through the valley
He is with me
He is with me
Even when I fall in the battle
There is victory
There is victory

Oh, what joy! The war is over
The King has come and set us free
As we wait for His return
We'll shout and sing for joy

I find my joy in the Lord
He is my rock, he is my song
And great reward
I will live to bring Him praise
In his great love I will rejoice
for all my days

Joy to the world
The Lord has won
